Responsibilities
- Operate heavy dump trucks to transport materials (sand, gravel, dirt) to and from job sites efficiently and safely.
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer to ensure mechanical safety and compliance.
- Maintain accurate driver logs (electronic or paper) and ensure all paperwork is up to date.
- Load and unload materials using forklifts or by hand, ensuring proper weight distribution and securing loads.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, DOT regulations, and company safety protocols at all times.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, site managers, and crew members regarding job status and delays.
Qualifications
- Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred but not always required depending on truck weight; check local regulations.
- Previous experience driving dump trucks in a construction, utility, or mining environment.
- Ability to pass a mandatory drug screen and background check.
- Strong physical stamina to handle long hours on the road, lifting, and climbing in and out of the cab.
- Basic mechanical knowledge to identify minor issues during pre-trip inspections.
- Must be a resident of the New Orleans area.
