Responsibilities
- Safely operate school buses on designated routes following strict traffic laws and safety protocols
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure mechanical safety
- Maintain a positive and orderly environment for students during transit
- Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and dispatch regarding route updates
- Adhere to Albuquerque Public Schools' safety policies and emergency procedures
- Assist students with boarding/alighting and provide mobility support as needed
- Complete accurate trip logs and incident reports
Qualifications
- Valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (Class B with P/S endorsement) or willingness to obtain
- Minimum 21 years of age with clean driving record (no major violations in past 3 years)
- Pass federal background check, drug screening, and DOT physical examination
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse student populations
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist students with mobility needs
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous driving experience preferred but not mandatory
