Responsibilities
- Safely operate school buses on designated routes following strict schedules
- Conduct pre/post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance issues
- Ensure student safety through proper boarding, seating, and exiting protocols
- Maintain accurate attendance records and student conduct logs
- Communicate professionally with parents, school staff, and dispatch
- Adhere to all federal/state transportation regulations and school policies
- Provide emergency response training and first aid when necessary
Qualifications
- Valid New Jersey Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement
- School Bus Driver Certificate (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
- Minimum 2 years professional driving experience
- Pass background check and DOT physical examination
- Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to manage student behavior calmly and professionally
- Knowledge of Newark streets and traffic patterns preferred
- Commitment to student safety and punctuality
