Responsibilities
- Safely operate school buses following strict traffic laws and CPS safety protocols
- Conduct pre-trip inspections and vehicle maintenance checks
- Manage student behavior with positive reinforcement and safety-focused discipline
- Maintain accurate attendance records and communication logs
- Adapt routes efficiently for field trips and extracurricular activities
- Report mechanical issues and maintain clean, orderly vehicles
- Collaborate with parents, school staff, and transportation coordinators
Qualifications
- Valid Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with School Bus endorsement
- Minimum 2 years professional driving experience
- Pass federal background check and drug screening
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist students with mobility needs
- Knowledge of Chicago streets and traffic patterns
- Ability to work flexible hours including early mornings and occasional evenings
