Responsibilities
- Safely Transport Students: Operate school buses to transport students to and from school, ensuring their safety and punctuality at all times.
- Maintain Vehicle Condition: Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure the vehicle is in safe operating condition and report any mechanical issues immediately.
- Manage Student Behavior: Maintain a safe and orderly environment on the bus, enforcing safety rules and managing student behavior with patience and firmness.
- Communicate Effectively: Interact professionally with parents, school staff, and dispatchers to provide updates on routes and address any concerns regarding student safety.
- Adhere to Regulations: Strictly follow all traffic laws, school bus safety regulations, and district policies regarding route planning and driving habits.
- Assist Passengers: Help students with disabilities or special needs safely board and exit the bus, and assist with securing wheelchairs or safety restraints.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL: Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
- Clean Driving Record: A satisfactory driving record (MVR) free of major moving violations and DUI convictions within the last 7 years.
- Education: High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
- Background Check: Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, including fingerprinting and drug screening.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, reach overhead, and perform physical tasks required for loading/unloading students. Must be able to sit for extended periods.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions clearly.
