Responsibilities
- Safely operate school buses on designated routes following strict schedules and traffic laws
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure mechanical safety
- Maintain student discipline and enforce bus safety protocols
- Assist students with boarding/exiting and secure wheelchair/special equipment as needed
- Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and transportation supervisors
- Complete accurate daily trip logs and incident reports
- Adhere to all federal/state transportation regulations and district policies
Qualifications
- Valid Indiana Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
- Minimum 21 years of age with clean driving record (no DUIs in past 5 years)
- Pass federal background check and DOT physical examination
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and assist students with mobility needs
- Strong communication skills and patience when working with children
- Basic knowledge of Fort Wayne geography and route navigation
- Ability to work flexible hours (early mornings, afternoons, and some weekends)
