Responsibilities
- Safely operate school buses on designated routes following strict schedules
- Conduct thorough pre/post-trip vehicle inspections and maintenance reports
- Implement student management policies ensuring orderly conduct and safety
- Adhere to all federal/state traffic laws and school district transportation regulations
- Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and transportation coordinators
- Manage emergency situations with calm professionalism and proper protocols
- Maintain clean, organized bus interiors and safety equipment
- Complete required documentation including incident reports and mileage logs
Qualifications
- Valid Virginia driver's license with clean driving record (no major violations)
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with School Bus endorsement (or willingness to obtain)
- Pass federal background check, drug screening, and DOT physical examination
- Ability to work early morning/afternoon shifts (typically 6-8 hours daily)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with children
- Knowledge of Virginia Beach area geography and traffic patterns
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and follow established procedures
- High school diploma or equivalent required
