Responsibilities
- Safely operate school buses on designated routes while adhering to traffic laws and district safety protocols
- Conduct thorough pre-trip/post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and mechanical soundness
- Supervise student boarding, exiting, and behavior during transport, maintaining a positive environment
- Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and dispatch regarding route changes or delays
- Follow emergency procedures and first-aid protocols when necessary
- Maintain accurate attendance and incident documentation
- Participate in ongoing safety training and professional development
Qualifications
- Valid California Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement
- Minimum 1 year driving experience with clean MVR (no DUIs in past 5 years)
- Pass DOT physical examination and drug screening
- Ability to obtain school bus driver authorization (SBD) and fingerprint clearance
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with children
- Patience and ability to remain calm during challenging situations
- Basic first-aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Fluent English proficiency; bilingual Spanish strongly preferred
