Responsibilities
- Safely operate school buses on designated routes while adhering to traffic laws and safety protocols
- Conduct pre-trip inspections and ensure vehicle maintenance meets safety standards
- Supervise student behavior during transit and enforce school district policies
- Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus, including special needs accommodations
- Maintain accurate attendance records and communication with dispatch/school staff
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and maintain calm during unexpected situations
- Complete required training and certification programs as mandated by state regulations
Qualifications
- Valid New Jersey Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
- Clean driving record with no more than 2 moving violations in past 3 years
- Minimum 1 year professional driving experience or equivalent training
- Pass federal background check, drug screening, and DOT physical examination
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist students with mobility needs
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with children and staff
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred (training provided if needed)
