Responsibilities
- Safe Operation: Operate commercial motor vehicles in a safe, efficient, and legal manner in accordance with all DOT regulations and company policies.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure mechanical safety and report any defects immediately.
- Freight Handling: Load and unload cargo safely and securely, ensuring cargo is protected from damage during transit.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate logs (ELD), delivery receipts, and bills of lading; ensure all paperwork is completed accurately and on time.
- Route Planning: Follow designated delivery routes and adhere to time schedules to ensure on-time delivery.
- Customer Service: Represent Metro Detroit Transport professionally when interacting with customers and dock personnel.
- Compliance: Adhere to all company safety protocols, including drug and alcohol testing programs and defensive driving practices.
Qualifications
- CDL Class A License: Valid Commercial Driver's License (Class A) is required. Must be able to obtain a CDL Class A if currently Class B or below.
- Driving Record: Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with no major violations in the last 3-5 years (depending on state laws).
- Medical Card: Current Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT Medical Card).
- Eligibility: Must be 21 years of age or older to drive across state lines.
- Background Check: Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal history and drug screening.
- Physical Ability: Ability to pass a physical exam demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job (lifting, climbing, etc.).
- Communication: Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently.
